Each year in the province of Alberta there are hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship money available. The following list will give you an idea of where to apply.

CANADIAN MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

TD Canada Trust

TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership Deadline:  October 31, 2005 Includes:  Full tuition at any accredited university or college in Canada, $5000 towards living expenses and a guaranteed offer of summer employment from TD Canada Trust.

University of Guelph

President’s Scholarships (12 awards)

Lincoln Alexander Chancellor’s Scholarships (2 awards)

$20,000 over 4 years, payable at 2,500 for each semester of full-time undergraduate study. 

 

Eligibility:  Any high school student, who is a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, entering the first semester level of any degree program at the University of Guelph is eligible to be nominated for a President’s Scholarship.  Any high school student, who is a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, entering the first semester level of any degree program at the University of Guelph and who is an Aboriginal Person of Canada, or a person with a disability, or a member of a visible minority, is eligible to be nominated for a Lincoln Alexander Chancellor’s Scholarship.

Father Edward (Ted) Colleton Scholarship

First Prize:  $1500
Second Prize:  $500

The scholarship honours the pro-life work of Father Ted both in Canada and in Kenya over the sixty-three plus years of priestly ministry.

Eligibility for the scholarship

The scholarship is open to senior high school students (grade 11 or 12).
Give proof of interest/active involvement in “life issues” and/or the pro-life movement
Submit one letter of reference, from a school staff member or community representative.
Submit a brief self-profile outlining participation in school life/community activities.

The rules:  
Students must submit a typed three-page original essay, (approximately 800-1000 words in length) postmarked no later than January 10, 2006 on the topic  “Life issues are at the heart of the culture wars.”

**Copyrights to any essay submitted for the purpose of the contest will be retained by The Interim newspaper.  Any publication or other use of the work would be acknowledged by naming its author.
